Richard from Australia recently recounted his first experience on the MPC Road War:
…while trying to preserve my new Road War wheels for Nationals, I started yesterday’s last Grand Prix meet (as a Masters A skater racing with the Senior A Men) on my old Black Tracks. Although the now well-worn Black Tracks were slipping through the asphalt corners, I still managed 2nd in the 200 behind a HongKong skater Calvin. Then, 4th in the 3km… very close, but still not enough grip.…eventually I realized this was the perfect time to test my new Road Wars against my previously trusty Black Tracks in the 5km race. Obviously new, they showed immense grip and superior roll. The 5k started, and throughout the race I rolled up on any escapee with ease – taking everyone with me. Lee took off and the HongKong skater Calvin too, with me the only chaser once again. I overtook Calvin and reeled-in Lee with one turn to go, but was so surprised with the extra speed I had that I forgot to setup a new racing line to make the pass, and stood up as I ran up on the wheel of the skater in front. With seconds remaining, and mistake made, I could hear another skater tightening up behind me, so I quickly ducked inside Lee but was pipped on the line for 2nd with a close finish.
As a result of my improved experience, I found myself crossing the line yelling: “These wheels are ******* awesome!” and got reprimanded by the race officials for bad language. Oops.”
